Site Search Help

How Do I Search?

The site search tool allows you to look for content on this VoiceGenie site.

The quickest way to search is just to enter your keywords in the 'Search' field, and either hit return, or click on 'Search'.

This will return a list of documents containing the words, sorted by 'score' - this is an indication of the best match for your keywords.

More *'s indicate a better match.

Getting More Results

At the bottom of each search page, you'll see a list of buttons that will you to navigate to additional pages of results (if you have more than ten results). You can click on the page number, or use the arrows (shown below) to navigate to the next and previous pages.

Changing your Search Keywords

If you want to refine your search, just enter your new kewords int the 'Search' field, and press return or click on the 'Search' button.

Changing How Matching is Done

You can control how your keywords are used for the search:

  1. All (default) - Return documents containing all of the keywords
  2. Any - Return documents containing any of the keywords
  3. Boolean - A full boolean expression defining which document to return

Changing the Sort Order

You can sort the results in a number of different ways:

  1. Score (default) - Ordered by 'best match'.
  2. Time - Ordered by last modification time
  3. Title - Ordered alphabetically by document title
  4. Reverse Score - Ordered from 'worst' to 'best' match
  5. Reverse Time Least recently modified first
  6. Reverse Title - Ordered in reverse alphabetic order

class="heading2">Troubleshooting - No Results

Check the spelling of the search word(s) you used. If the spelling is correct and you only used one word, try using one or more similar search words with "Any."

If the spelling is correct and you used more than one word with "Any," try using one or more similar search words with "Any."

If the spelling is correct and you used more than one word with "All," try using one or more of the same words with "Any."

Troubleshooting - Syntax Error

Boolean expressions need to be 'correct' in order for the search system to use them. If you see 'syntax error', the expression you entered has errors in it.

Examples of correct expressions are: cat and dog, cat not dog, cat or (dog not nose).

Note that the operator not has the meaning of 'without'.
